About

Hi! I’m Delyn Kazdan (she/her), and I own and operate New Leaf Counseling, a private mental health counseling practice.

I have worked in the mental health and social services fields in a variety of roles since 2003, and greatly enjoy working with clients who come to therapy to work through a wide variety of mental health struggles, distressing or traumatic events, or simply adjusting to the various changes and curveballs life can throw our way.

I graduated from Ball State University in 2009 with a BS in psychology and a minor in Women’s Studies. I then worked in local community mental health for about five years before returning to school to pursue my master’s in Counseling at Indiana University Bloomington. I graduated with my Master’s of Science in Education (MSEd) in 2015, with a minor in Human Development. I completed my master’s practicum and internship at a local community mental health center, Catholic Charities Bloomington, and Becky’s Place, a shelter for women and children experiencing homelessness. I worked at CCB until the end of 2017, when I left to pursue opening my own private practice.

In 2016, I completed my training in EMDR and since then trauma work has become a large part of my practice. I strive to be trauma-informed and inclusive with all of my clients. I am also a National Certified Counselor by the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC).

Through both my professional and personal experiences, I have worked with folks from all walks of life - I find that this has served me well in therapy as I strive to be a competent, caring and ethical helping professional,

My upcoming professional advancement goals include becoming trained in Somatic Experiencing Therapy as well as taking continuing education workshops in ethics, unconscious bias, and emerging research about the impacts and effects of trauma. I am also currently working towards the advanced step in EMDR training -becoming certified- and hope to have that completed by the end of 2021.

Additionally, I am currently working with my Leonberger puppy, Tillie, to train her as a therapy dog. I hope to be offering animal assisted therapy starting in the fall of 2021.

I maintain an active license with Indiana’s Behavioral Health & Human Services Board.
